WBSS Cruiserweight Quarter-final Matchup Saturday, October 21 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Murat Gassiev takes on Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in the World Boxing Super Series.
World Boxing Super Series action comes to the east coast as the cruiserweight quarter-final showdown between IBF champion Murat “Iron” Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs) and former world champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs) is set for Saturday, October 21 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
One of the hardest punchers in the sport, Gassiev trains with Abel Sanchez in Big Bear, California and hails from Vladikavkaz, Russia.
The 23-year-old made his U.S. debut in 2015 and delivered four straight knockout victories, including a “Knockout of the Year” contender when he flattened Jordan Schimmel in the first round in May 2016.
Gassiev then challenged Denis Lebedev in Russia last December and was able to drop the champion on his way to winning the IBF title.
What will result in the duel of Włodarczyk with Gassijew?
- Włodarczyk's Win - 5
- Gassijew's Win - 4
- Will draw - 0
The battle of Włodarczyk Diablo with Gassijew was only a few days. Pole emphasizes that it is in great shape. He wants to win the world championship belt in junior heavyweight for the third time. “I have to shoot like a machinegun,” he admits.
Gasiyev says that your fight will be the most important in his career? For you too?
Krzysztof Włodarczyk: Good question (laughter). Maybe not the most important, but it is of great importance, because the stake will be the world champion belt in junior heavyweight. I would like to win it for the third time and go to history, so far no Polish fighter has done so far.
How are the workouts going?
Well. We have been in the US for over two weeks. We train in New Jersey in the gym, which belonged to Ziggy Rozalski. We have very good conditions, hotel near. I can not complain. Although … it would be better if I came to the USA one month before the fight. But it is what it is.
What is your plan for this fight?
Gasijew is 24 years old, granite jaw. He never lost by knockout. He comes from Vladikavkaz at the foot of the Caucasus. People are very fierce and tough. I will not be in a duel while standing as a peg and he was going to hang like a training bag. I will shoot him like a machine gun. Quickly, accurately and painfully. He likes to fight in semi-distance and get it.
